Position Description

Position Title: Health Services Coordinator
Department: Student Affairs
Reports to: Vice President of Student Affairs

The mission of Health Services is to minimize interruptions in academic pursuit, ministry efforts, and work by providing healthcare options and promoting wellness to students, faculty, and staff. Institutional Goals supported by Departments: IG 3

*This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), will be required to participate in CSA training, and is required to immediately forward all reports of Clery Act crimes brought to their attention to the Clery Compliance Officer.   

A. Summary
The Health Services Coordinator will promote holistic health to all students and campus personnel. This role will uphold the college’s standards and policies while maintaining a professional attitude and work style.

B. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and vision for the Richardson Health Center, its supplies, certifications, and functionality. Triage and assess student and personnel health needs; treat with over-the-counter medications and supplies or recommend treatment as needed; refer to healthcare provider, urgent care, emergency department, trainer, or counselor as needed.
  • Advise supervisor of policy changes regarding immunizations and healthcare best practices.
  • Provide health education opportunities as needed, such as CPR and first aid training for residence directors and resident assistants; healthy eating and lifestyle choices for the student body; fitness opportunities (in collaboration with the Athletic Department); and other ideas to support the efforts of the Student Affairs Department.
  • Notify the Vice President of Student Affairs of any serious medical problems while maintaining the confidentiality of patients.
  • Maintain standardized procedures that comply with the State of Missouri Health Department and various requirements for a facility of our scope.
  • Order and stock over-the-counter medications for the RHC and first aid kits as needed and requested.
  • Monitor [email protected] email and respond appropriately to health concerns.
  • Be available two days a week for in-person or telehealth visits. Keep records of patients seen and general information about visits. Provide copies of information if requested for the Vice President of Student Affairs.
  • Assist with non-life-threatening campus emergencies as needed.
  • Annually update First Aid Annex of Emergency Operations Plan.
  • Meet annually with supervisor to review job description and strategic plan.
  • Will not offer diagnosis, prescribe medication, or order tests.
  • Will obtain consent prior to treatment.

C. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to provide medical assessment without the supervision of a physician or other medical professional present on-site
  • Ability to determine whether a condition requires urgent or emergent follow up
  • Ability to function within RN scope of practice as designated by the Missouri State Board of Nursing
  • Ability and desire to provide a welcome, safe, and confidential environment for students and staff seeking health advice or treatment
  • Ability to work well with other personnel around campus to promote health and safety for students
  • Personal commitment to Christ and the mission of OCC

D. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements 

  • Completed degree in Science and Nursing
  • Active Missouri State Board of Nursing “Registered Nurse” license in good standing
  • Two years of previous nursing experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to Christ and the mission of OCC

E. Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Universal precautions will be used when in contact with patients as needed, i.e., gloves, masks, face shields, etc. Office hours are held inside the Richardson Health Center.  “House calls” around campus as needed. Confidentiality is required for all records and patients seen.
