Position Description

Position Title: Chapel Minister
Department: Worship and Creative Arts
Reports to: Worship and Creative Arts Director

The mission of the Worship and Creative Arts department is to provide training, leadership, and performance opportunities for students to develop their creative talents through events that advance the overall mission of the institution. Institutional Goals supported by Department: IG 2, 3, 4

*This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), and will be required to participate in CSA training, and is required to immediately forward all reports of Clery Act crimes brought to their attention to the Clery Compliance Officer.   

A. Summary

This position is three-fold, but with one general purpose: to train and prepare students to be lifelong worshipers from a standpoint of vocation, volunteer roles, and/or personal life. This is achieved through direct oversight of the chapel program at Ozark Christian College, teaching in the Worship and Creative Arts Department, and directing Frontline.

B. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Chapel Minister (25%)

    a. Provide oversight and direction for all aspects of chapel

    b. Develop student worship teams (collectively called “Frontline”). Provide direction for students as they prepare, plan for, execute, and debrief from chapel worship services

    c. Work with Student Production Manager to help provide oversight and direction to the Student Production Team

    d. Lead Chapel Planning Committee to create themes, sermon series, and select speakers

2. Direct Frontline, OCC’s signature musical team (25%)

    a. School year (3 teams): This includes selecting the teams, scheduling events, guiding musical selections, overseeing weekly rehearsals

    b. Summer (up to 2 teams)

        i. Work with Admissions Department to select teams and locations for summer worship leading

        ii. Musically prepare students for worship leading in the summer

        iii. Work with the Student Production Manager to prepare gear and train tech personnel.

        iv. Provide oversight of all aspects of summer travel (merchandise, equipment, personnel)

3. Teach courses in the Worship Arts curriculum (20%)

    a. Examples: Practical Issues in Worship and Creative Arts Ministry, Theology of Worship, Frontline Worship Teams, Worship Band Skills, and Private lessons

4. Extracurricular Events (10%)

    a. Participate in service to our constituents approximately 20 days of the calendar year. These days can include travel with Frontline, Creative Arts Academy, Events, or other faculty service.

    b. Lead the Music Track for the Creative Arts Academy

5. Fulfill administrative responsibilities. Including, but not limited to: (10%)

    a. Lead Spiritual Formation Committee

    b. Serve on relevant committees

    c. Prepare budget and authorize spending

    d. Oversee part-time employees

6. Disciple and train students for worship leadership (10%)

    a. Done through formal (Frontline Worship Teams and classes) and informal (1-on-1 meetings, exemplifying a life of worship, etc) settings

    b. Provide academic, career, and personal advising for students

C. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    1. Must have a working knowledge of vocal and instrumental music as it is applied in the modern church and exhibit a thorough knowledge of the Bible and theology, particularly as it relates to worship.

    2. Expected to teach by example in leading corporate worship, exhibiting a Christ-like life and attitude, modeling the principles of pastoral leadership and contextualization.

    3. As a leader in the creative arts, the director must also be adept at using and training students in modern audio-visual production equipment in the church context.

    4. Must manifest good communication and relational skills; be a good manager of time, resources, and personnel; and lead with creativity and vision.

    5. Be a lifelong learner, given the constant changes in both musical and technical aspects of worship.

E. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

    · Master’s degree or higher for teaching as faculty

    · Appropriate certification may be required for teaching specific skills

    · 7-10 years of leadership experience in the field of worship and creative arts

F. Work Environment and Physical Requirements

    · Work is primarily indoors

    · Moderate physical activity required (set-up and tear down of musical and technical equipment)
