Children's Pastor

Ben Davis Christian Church (BDCC) is a diverse and growing church on the west side of Indianapolis. Every week, over 500 people gather in person, with our total reach extending to more than 600 when including our online community. BDCC is a multi-ethnic, multi-generational church with a powerful story—what was once a declining urban church is now turnaround church, reaching our city and equipping people to live out their faith with purpose.

At BDCC, our mission is equipping people for life on mission. That means we help everyday people grow in their faith and live it out in the real world. This mission shows up in two key ways:

• For the One – Jesus told a story about a shepherd who left the 99 to go after the one lost sheep (Luke 15). That’s how much one life matters to God—and to us. We’re passionate about reaching people who feel far from God, forgotten by church, or unsure where they belong. Our doors—and our hearts—are open to the one.
• Equipping the 99 to Reach the One – While we care deeply about the one, we also believe in equipping the 99. That’s the people already following Jesus. We want to help them grow strong in the Gospel, live boldly on mission, and be ready to reach the people in their everyday lives—neighbors, coworkers, family members—who need hope and truth. When the 99 are equipped, the one gets found.

We are an independent Christian Church. We stand on the authority of God’s Word, the saving power of Jesus Christ, and the work of the Holy Spirit. We pursue unity in the essentials, liberty in the non-essentials, and love in all things. Our faith is rooted in the historic truths of Scripture, lived out in everyday obedience, and centered on Jesus—our Savior, our King, and our model for life.

The Children's Pastor oversees the spiritual growth and discipleship of children from birth through elementary school at Ben Davis Christian Church. Responsibilities include developing curriculum, leading weekly services, managing volunteers, and planning events. The Children's Pastor ensures a safe environment and collaborates with other ministries like MomCo to nurture children in their faith.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Program Leadership:
   1. Develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum and activities.
   2. Lead and coordinate weekly children's services, ensuring they are effective for children of all backgrounds.
   3. Organize and oversee outreach initiatives, including programs like MomCo.
2. Volunteer Coordination:
   1. Recruit, train, and empower a diverse team of volunteers to effectively minister to children.
   2. Provide leadership and ongoing development opportunities for volunteers to excel in their roles.
3. Event Planning and Coordination:
   1. Organize and oversee special events throughout the year, such as camps, special events, and service projects.
   2. Collaborate with the NextGen Pastor to coordinate joint events and ensure smooth transitions between children's and student ministries.
4. Family Integration and Support:
   1. Develop family discipleship strategies within the children's ministry, working with the NextGen Pastor to support parents in nurturing their children's spiritual development.
   2. Maintain regular communication with parents to keep them informed about ministry activities and resources.
5. Resource Management:
   1. Directly manage the NextGen Assistant, ensuring efficient task delegation, optimal time management, and consistent alignment with ministry goals.
   2. Ensure a safe and welcoming environment for children, adhering to all safety guidelines and procedures.
   3. Maintain open communication with parents, providing regular updates on ministry activities and resources.
   4. Manage the upkeep and organization of children's ministry spaces, creating an inviting atmosphere conducive to learning and growth.
6. Budget Oversight:
   1. Manage the children's ministry budget effectively, allocating resources to support ministry goals and activities.

Requirements:

• Proven experience in youth ministry or a related field.
• Strong preaching and teaching skills with the ability to engage a diverse young audience.
• Experience in managing volunteers and developing teams.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Proficient in using technology such as Church Community Builder for data management and ProPresenter for service presentations.
• A heart for service and a passion for leading young people in their faith journey.

Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree in children's ministry, education, or related field preferred.
• Must align with the theological beliefs and values of Ben Davis Christian Church.
