POSITION SUMMARY: The Good News Boys Home Academy is a year-round trimester residential school for boys ages 13-18. Teachers instruct students in a classroom setting, ensuring that students are provided a high-quality education in a variety of academic subjects, in order that they can improve their grades and graduate with a Core 40 high school diploma. Teachers also counsel students in spiritual matters, to instill in the boys Biblical worldviews so they grow to become godly young men. The Academy is located on the 145-acre Good News Boys Home facility in rural Putnam County, Indiana.

HOURS: Monday to Friday 8:45 AM to 5 PM, with a 30-minute lunch break.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepare and/or customize lesson plans to meet required learning objectives.
• Teach lessons in an engaging and effective way, so students desire to learn and grasp content and concepts.
• Assign and grade projects, assignments, quizzes and tests.
• Assist students with homework.
• Enforce Student Handbook rules and procedures, address disruptive behavior and communicate to the boys what corrective actions will be taken, and why.
• Use verbal skills to calm angry boys and nonviolent intervention techniques to keep others safe, when necessary.
• Assist with student supervision during meals and off-site activities, as needed.
• Disciple and counsel the boys.
• Serve on the student Promotion Review Board, when needed.
• Collaborate with other teachers and staff to improve the educational experience.
• Provide student grades and student status to staff on a regular basis.
• Ensure student academic and behavioral accountability.
• Assist in staff recruiting.
• Support volunteers and other staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be a born again believer who models Christian behavior and character traits in word and action.
• Agree with the Good News Ministries Statement of Faith (https://goodnewsministries.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/What-We-Believe.pdf).
• Bachelor’s degree in education preferred.
• Previous teaching experience preferred.
• Knowledgeable in scripture and able to share it with students.
• A love for youth and a burden to see them saved and growing in the Lord.
• Excellent people skills and highly creative.
• Highly motivated with a strong work ethic.
• Competent in the use of computers and other education technology tools.

COMPENSATION: This is a full-time salaried position with benefits, including paid time off and 7 paid holidays, 403(b) retirement savings program with ministry match, room and board in ministry-owned housing (optional, based on availability), discounted auto repairs and maintenance, food and personal item giveaways, 50 percent discount on Good News Thrift Store merchandise and lunches and snacks.
