Youth Minister

Purpose of the Position: Be responsible for casting vision, planning programs and activities for all ages of youth which will promote closeness, harmony, social and spiritual growth among the youth. The ability to lead worship on Sunday mornings is a plus.

General Qualifications:

1. Have a consistent and fruitful relationship with Jesus Christ. The youth minister should display the character qualities found in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. They should also display the fruit of the Spirit found in Galatians 5:22-23.
2. A track record of serving in ministry, loyalty to church leadership, evidence of leadership and a calling to youth ministry.
3. A heart and passion for young people of all ages.
4. Free from addictions and life-dominating sins.
5. Demonstrated competence in doing the work of ministry.
6. Have a teachable spirit.

Specific Qualifications:

1. The time and energy to work 40 - 50 hours a week, depending on scheduled activities.
2. Desire to spend time in God’s Word and prayer
3. Desire to see young people and their families come to and grow in Christ

Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Spend regular time in personal Bible study and prayer to maintain your own spiritual health outside of the ministry.
2. Create and communicate a Philosophy of youth ministry for the youth program.
3. Create and communicate goals for the youth program.
4. Administration of general youth ministry needs, including facilitating communications with staff, parents, sponsors, and students connected to the youth ministry. For example, doing calendars, flyers, mailings, telephone calls, and newcomer follow-up.
5. Attend youth events/activities in the community.
6. Recruit and train volunteer support for the youth ministry.
7. Participate in youth ministry activities, service projects, and events.
8. Plan youth ministry events, service projects and activities for youth of all ages.
9. Be available to counsel young people.
10. Be willing to teach in any area of youth ministry.
11. Observe and report on classes during the worship service.
12. Aide in the planning and implementation of VBS.
13. Keep attendance records.
14. Encourage young people to consider specialized Christian Service.
15. Promote youth attendance at Gasconade Christian Service Camp
16. Attend weekly meetings with the Senior Minister.
17. Work with the Senior Minister in the development and implementation of a program to minister to and with parents of young people.
18. Be available to fill the pulpit in the absence of the Senior Minister.
19. There may be other responsibilities added after agreed upon by the Senior Minister and youth minister.

Accountability:

1. The youth minister is ultimately accountable to the Lord.
2. Secondarily, the youth minister shall be accountable to the Senior Minister.
3. Thirdly, the youth minister shall be accountable to the Eldership
