Axis Christian Church began in 2009 with a vision to create a church built around relational discipleship. From the beginning, our focus has been on fulfilling the Great Commission by developing disciples who make disciples. We believe the Church is called to do more than gather on Sunday mornings. We are called to build relationships, engage our communities, and help people take their next steps toward Jesus. Axis Church is now one church in two locations. Our first campus was established in Mason, Ohio. Over the years, we have found creative ways to live out that mission. At our Mason campus, we launched Kala Coffeehouse, a popular community coffee shop designed to refresh the community and create a welcoming space where relationships could develop. We also helped launch a CrossFit gym in the same building as another way to build relational bridges and connect with people beyond the walls of the church. The Middletown campus is newer. In 2020, Axis merged with LifeBridge Christian Church in Middletown, Ohio, expanding our ministry into a second community. We invested in the Middletown campus by adding a new worship center to its existing eight-acre property, conveniently located just off Interstate 75. In the fall of 2022, we relaunched the campus with the opening of the new worship center and a renewed vision for reaching the Middletown community.

Middletown is a community with a rich history, a strong identity, and an exciting future. Located between Cincinnati and Dayton along the I-75 corridor, the city is experiencing significant new investment and development. One of the most notable projects is Renaissance Pointe, a major mixed-use development near State Route 122 and Union Road that will bring a regional entertainment and event venue, retail, restaurants, hotels, and new residential opportunities to the area. At the same time, Middletown faces real challenges. There are families experiencing economic hardship, neighborhoods with significant needs, and people who are looking for hope, connection, and a sense of belonging. We believe this creates tremendous opportunities for the local church to make a difference. We see Middletown as a community full of potential and opportunity for ministry. We want to be a church that is deeply invested in the community, builds meaningful relationships, serves people in practical ways, and introduces people to the life-changing message of Jesus.

We are looking for the next Campus Pastor to lead our Middletown campus into its next season of ministry. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to do more than maintain an existing church. We are looking for a leader who is passionate about reaching people, developing disciples, building relationships, and helping a campus realize its full potential. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is comfortable working independently, taking initiative, and making things happen. At the same time, he understands that he is part of something bigger than one campus. He will embrace the mission, vision, and direction of Axis Church and work collaboratively with the Lead Pastor and Mason Campus Pastor to advance that shared mission. We value leaders who are willing to get in the weeds, roll up their sleeves, and do whatever is necessary to help the church move forward. This is a hands-on ministry role that requires both vision and a willingness to do the everyday work of building a healthy church. The Mission of Axis Church is to revolve the world around Jesus, one life at a time. This Job Description is for the position of Campus Pastor for the Middletown Campus of Axis Church.  This position is full-time.  The Campus Pastor is accountable to the Lead Pastor and works closely with the Mason Campus Pastor, under the authority of the Overseers.  The person who serves as Campus Pastor must be committed to Christ and His Word and be ordained in the Christian Ministry.  He must be a self-directed leader who is also a humble follower.   He must lead with both grace and truth.  He must be hard-working and also able to balance personal development and family relationships.  He should develop his preaching and ensure that it is always biblically sound.  He should not be too hard on himself and enjoy the journey.

Responsibilities:

• Support and promote the Axis beliefs, mission, values and DNA:
  • Creatively lead the campus with its own personality, style and approach within the overall vision and leadership of Axis Church.
  • Work closely with the other campus leaders to ensure alignment.
• Model Disciple-making:
  • Set the example for the campus by pursuing a growing relationship with Jesus and personally fulfilling the mission to go make disciples.
• Champion and Celebrate Disciple-making:
  • Be the primary voice to both the campus and community about the need to be and make disciples.
  • Develop and coach community group leaders to live out the mission of Jesus in their circles of influence.
• Impact the community through mission:
  • Create relational bridges with the community through missional events, local partnerships, community group reach and personal relationship building.
• Lead the campus team:
  • Support the team of campus ministry leaders (both staff and volunteer) to ensure that all ministries are well led, encouraged and released.
  • Set the example by working hard while also taking care of yourself and your relationships.
• Oversee Sunday Morning gatherings:
  • Work closely with the Worship Minister to prayerfully and creatively facilitate worship experiences.
  • Provide effective up-front leadership and communication.
  • Coordinate series with the Axis teaching team and preach on regular rotation.
  • Champion and support all on-site ministries (impressions, support ministries, children, etc).
• Care for the church:
  • Provide pastoral care to the campus including crises, weddings, funerals, etc.
  • Facilitate opportunities for the congregation to unite, enjoy relationships and care for one another.
• Manage expenses and promote sacrificial giving:
  • Under the direction of the Lead Pastor and Overseers, work diligently toward being a self-sustaining campus.
  • Be personally generous and give back to the church, using a tithe as a baseline.
