Job Description
The Senior Pastor's Responsibilities Include:
- Corporate Worship Service(s)
- Provide dynamic and applicable preaching of Scripture on Sunday mornings and during special services.
- Coordinate all aspects of each worship service, including prayer, preaching, and administration of the sacraments, in conjunction with the Pastor of Youth & Young Families, Choir Director, musicians and lay leaders.
- Coach and mentor church staff and lay leaders for greater ministry effectiveness.
- Lead and promote spiritual growth within the church. Shepherd the congregation.
- Teaching
- Ensure the teaching of the congregation in all ministry areas is consistent with God's holy word.
- Develop other capable teachers and preachers of God's Word within the church.
- Work with individuals, teams, organizations, and committees as appropriate and needed in regard to finances, facilities, and ministries.
- Champion opportunities including those within the denomination for continuing education/development for church staff.
- Take the initiative to recruit, develop, and encourage healthy leadership and healthy teams.
- Train and mentor small group leaders with the goal of developing WBC small group ministry.
- Shepherd Elders and their families.
- Oversee the hiring, performance, and dismissal process of all staff in conjunction with the Elders.
- Provide oversight of weddings (including premarital counseling), funerals, and other special occasions.
- Vision
- Cast, develop, initiate, and drive the strategic vision of WBC in partnership with the Elders and Church Staff.
- Seek to grow more disciples willing to serve faithfully in ministries to support the growing congregation.
- Provide leadership in goal setting, and outreach with the Board of Elders.
- Provide leadership and vision to the Denomination.
- Work closely with the Pastor of Youth and Young Families to develop and coordinate specific focus and programming for this age group.
- Community Outreach
- Communicate with the congregation and community through social media, personal conversations, and other communication tools.
- Development of an overall plan of shepherding and visitation of congregation members.
- Ensure that the church is cultivating positive relationships within the community in such a way to assist the advance of the gospel.
- Continue development of programming that ministers to the Wall community and grows the church.
- Ensure visitation of shut-ins and those in the hospital either by personal visit or by phone.
- Do the work of an evangelist.
- Spiritual Growth
- Be available to team leaders and Bible Study leaders and offer to coach.
- Responsible for confirming that the ministries and programs of the church are supporting the church’s vision for discipleship.
- Encourage, participate, and provide opportunities for prayer - individually as well as corporately through prayer meetings and developing Prayer Teams.
- Provide short-term counseling (e.g., premarital, personal, marital) and direct members of the congregation to other qualified resources for long-term counseling or areas outside of his expertise.

Job Summary
The Senior Pastor will be the primary teacher of Scripture at Wall Brethren Church and will oversee the spiritual health of the congregation. With the assistance of the men and women who comprise the Board of Elders, the Senior Pastor will provide leadership, vision, and inspiration. As a well-known figure within the Wall community, the Senior Pastor of Wall Brethren should be outgoing, a good communicator and problem solver, and a team player.
Applicant Requirements
Education & Experience: 5 to 7 years of experience as an Associate or Senior Pastor. Bachelor's degree is required. Seminary degree is required. Personal Characteristics & Qualifications: Be Biblically sound and an excellent communicator of God's Word. Agreement with the standards and doctrine of Wall Brethren Church and the Unity of the Brethren Excellent leadership, interpersonal and team-building skills. An effective and compelling communicator, publicly and personally, in both spoken and written communication. Ability to proactively pursue and build relationships with people within the congregation and community. Ability to build ministries and lead volunteers to grow God's kingdom and the church. A growing relationship with Christ, high moral character, and a strong history of involvement in a local church. Have the heart of a Shepherd for the congregation and community.
