Suburban Christian Church
Suburban is a unique church in many ways. We have a history of emphasizing unity over uniformity and we’re committed to focusing on the foundational things of faith to this end. A wide variety of people attend Suburban, both academics (Oregon State University is in Corvallis) and trade workers, engineers and farmers. We also have people who come from a variety of denominational backgrounds: Lutheran, Baptist, Four Square, Methodist, and more. We believe this diversity makes our community richer and is like “iron sharpening iron”. Suburban’s staff is constantly learning and growing together. They aim to be humble and honest as they interact with each other and with the greater church body. The staff and elders aren’t perfect, but they love Jesus and care about reaching out to the community in love and service in the name of Jesus.

Job Description
At Suburban Christian Church, we love our youth! We have a middle school group that has a blast weekly as they play “capture the flag” around the church or dodgeball in the sanctuary. Then they dig into the Word with our great volunteers who can be goofy and talk about Jesus in the same 5 minutes. Our high school group has had several pastoral changes in the past few years, which has been challenging, but there’s a committed core of sophomores and juniors that keep things going. Even during the pandemic we put on masks and continued to meet, inside or at parks, to encourage each other in our faith and to have fun!
We’re looking for a Student Ministry Pastor who is passionate about God and about students! This pastor will help Middle School and High School students live out Suburban’s mission of helping people become fully alive in Christ (John 10:10) by encouraging them to engage in practices, habits, and relationships that help them grow in what we call the 3 C’s¬–their relationship with Christ, with the Church, and with the Community around them. We believe relationships with the students and with their families are what make programs successful, both the relationships built by the youth pastor as well as with volunteers.
Job Summary
Our Student Ministry Pastor would provide leadership, planning, and direction to programs for students that may include small groups, retreats, weekly meetings, etc. Another aspect of the role is partnering with parents so the entire family can be built up, as well as recruiting and working alongside volunteers.
