Position Title: Maintenance Technician
Department: Physical Plant
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor, Physical Plant Director

The mission of the Physical Plant Department is to operate, maintain, and renew campus facilities in order to provide clean, safe, healthy, attractive, and productive environments for the learning and living of students and the teaching and working of staff. Institutional Goals supported by Department: IG 3, 5

A. Summary:
The Maintenance Technician will work under the Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for any maintenance needs for the campus as related to assigned areas. This position is governed by departmental procedures and both safety and institutional policies.

B. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Perform minor electrical upgrades within the campus buildings, e.g. changing of ballast, light bulbs, switches, and outlets
  2. Maintain an inventory of the parts and accessories related to this field. Submit Purchase Requisition as needed for inventory while conducting competitive price quote from vendors
  3. Perform minor repairs to all windows and window hardware involving glass screen, latch, spring assemblies, and other related window functions
  4. Conduct functionality tests and inspections on fire safety system, emergency lighting, exit lights, and related areas. Log test results
  5. As assigned, perform minor and major painting projects, utilizing paint brushes, paint rollers, paint sprayers, and other related equipment
  6. Assist in general carpentry projects, involving building repairs or assembly of wooden framework, trim, plaster, roofing or other related assigned fields
  7. Utilize all carpentry tools and shop equipment, and maintain as needed
  8. Receive work orders from supervisor to perform various duties or as assigned by Physical Plant Director
  9. Complete assigned Work Orders or given projects
  10. Accept the responsibility to clean up after given assignments, or as created by projects

C. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Must have knowledge in plumbing and electrical
  2. Must have general carpentry knowledge
  3. Must have the ability to safely climb ladders (including extension ladders)
  4. Must be able to lift 75 lbs on occasion
  5. Must be able to routinely lift 15-45 pound ladders
  6. Must be able to work over head
  7. Must be able to follow orders both written or oral
  8. Able to work independently with little oversight to complete assigned jobs
  9. Must be able to troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance
  10. Ability to recognize and locate conditions which require repair and maintenance

D. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Must have previous experience in maintenance, electrical, and maintenance
  3. Must have a valid driver’s license

E. Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
The Maintenance Technician will spend up to 8 hours per workday standing, sitting, bending, twisting, turning, and climbing up and down ladders, scaffolds, and other climbing devices. The work environment for this technician will vary from day to day; technician may work outside, in high places, in confined areas, or in extreme cold and heat. Must be able to climb 6-8 foot ladders with no modification adhering to all safety procedures.
