Job Summary

As a body of believers who simply want to love one another and grow in our relationship with God, First Church of Christ in Cherokee, Iowa, seeks applications for a pastor who provides administrative and spiritual leadership for the congregation. The position reports directly to the Board of Elders and includes the supervision of part-time staff. Essential Functions • Teach God’s truth during weekly sermons, Bible studies, classes, and other events (e.g., weddings, funerals, visitations, youth camps, etc.). • Exhibit compassion during care visits • Actively build relationships within the congregation and the community. • Profess that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, the life, and the head of the church, as well as that the Bible is the ultimate source of faith. • Collaborate closely with the children’s ministry group to maximize the spiritual development of children. • Identify member talents then train and encourage volunteers who desire to minister or serve others. • Create new ministries as needs and opportunities arise. • Nurture families to strengthen their relationship with Christ and with each other. • Make and maintain positive relationships with leaders in the community. • Manage the ministry budget in cooperation with the board of elders and deacons.

Applicant Requirements

Qualifications Successful candidates will demonstrate the following: • An ability to minister to members from diverse backgrounds • Be enthusiastic about connecting with members of our congregation beyond Sunday sermon • Effective public speaking, writing, and interpersonal communication skills • Commitment to the mission and values of the First of Church of Christ • Organization of programming, events, and publications • Innovative ideas to engage the community and congregation • Work in a team environment that includes elders, deacons, secretarial staff, and multiple volunteers • This individual must be well rounded in a variety of ministry roles • College education in ministry, biblical studies or similar field of study in the New Testament Restoration Movement • A minimum of 3-5 years of ministry experience If you are interested in applying for this position, please send your cover letter, resume, 3-5 references, and 1-2 media files or links to media files that demonstrate your preaching style to Thank you for your Interest in this position and in our church family.
