Worship Arts Degrees

Bachelor of Arts in Music and Worship

The music and worship degree equips students to serve as worship arts pastors in churches and parachurch ministries. The degree focuses on preparing students to lead with musical excellence, theological depth, and pastoral skill. With a solid foundation in music theory, students can concentrate in either voice, guitar, or piano. The program emphasizes the importance of planning and leading biblically rich and culturally sensitive worship services. Students are expected to put what they are learning into practice by participating in ministry opportunities both on and off campus, whether that is serving on a chapel team or with the worship team of a local church.

What to expect:

  • Complete an audition and interview with the Worship Arts Department faculty in order to be admitted into the degree program. Some students may be admitted on probationary status.
  • Complete a music theory placement test
  • Participate in an ensemble each semester (choir, Frontline, chapel team or other)
  • Attend various recitals on and off campus
  • Complete an internship or ministry field experience
  • Perform before the faculty each semester a student is enrolled in applied lessons (juries)
  • Complete Music courses including:
    • 3 semesters of music theory & skills
    • 2 semesters of piano (class or private lessons)
    • 10 semesters of private lessons (voice, guitar or piano)
  • Complete worship arts courses including:
    • ​Foundations for Christian Worship
    • Foundations for Creative Arts Ministry
    • Strategies for Worship Leadership
    • Issues in Worship Arts Ministry
  • Complete the core curriculum (biblical, general and professional studies)

Creative Arts Ministry Major

This program is designed to prepare students in a variety of skills and principles related to creative arts ministry. In addition to developing a theology of technology and pastoral leadership skills, students will gain hands-on experience with audio, video and lighting equipment. Project-based courses allow students to develop a portfolio of their work in audio-video recording, stage set design and graphic arts. Graduates from this program will serve the church and parachurch organizations in the areas of worship production and creative arts ministry.

What to expect:

  • Participate each semester in creative arts ministry as a member of the college’s technical team, a school-sponsored ensemble, or in a local church or parachurch organization
  • Complete an internship or ministry field experience
  • Complete creative arts courses including:
    • Foundations for Christian Worship
    • Foundations for Creative Arts Ministry
    • Strategies for Creative Arts Ministry
    • Practical Issues in Worship Arts Ministry
    • Advanced Audio or Video courses
  • Complete the core curriculum (biblical, general and professional studies)

Associate of Arts in Music and Worship

This program is designed for the student who desires a position of voluntary leadership in music ministry. The student will gain both a foundational knowledge of the Bible and a strong foundation of musical knowledge and skill. The skill level of the student’s musicianship will be enhanced through private instruction and group participation. Frequently, this program is selected as an added area of study in addition to a bachelor’s degree although graduates will also be positioned to complete their education at another institution.

  • Complete worship arts courses including:
    • Foundations for Christian Worship
  • Complete the core curriculum (biblical, general and professional studies)

Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministry with a Creative Arts Ministry Minor

This program is designed to prepare students in a variety of skills and principles related to creative arts ministry.
