Campus Communications
There are various avenues of communication available on the OCC campus. Here is a summary of those resources.
Email Communications
Each OCC department uses the official OCC student email accounts <@my.occ.edu> to target communications to specific groups of students. The sending department and subject are indentified in the subject line of each email so students can easily determine the email's relevance to them without opening it. For example, the subject line for a scholarship update from Financial Aid may appear as "OCC FINANCIAL AID: Important Scholarship Information."
The Student Development Office (SDO) hopes that communication to students is enhanced by direct emails from each department. Each department is asked to target their messages to the intended audience as much as possible and to use the email system only for important student information (not junk mail). Students should regularly check their official student email accounts and pay attention to relevant messages since this may be the only method used for certain notifications. If you have any questions regarding the email notification system, please contact Monte Shoemake.
Chapel Announcements
Important information related to the OCC community is often communicated in Chapel announcements. Chapel is regularly held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesdays and occasionally on Thursday. See the Chapel Participants page for procedures on requesting to make a Chapel announcement (spoken, video and/or PowerPoint).
Bulletin Boards
Information may also be dissiminated through bulletin boards available in the Mabee Student Center hallway, Library lobby or the Chapel basement hallway.
Mailboxes
Flyers may be distributed to student's mailboxes in the Mabee Student Center through request made to the Mail Center Coordinator.
Phone System
OCC's phone network provides the potential for every student to have a phone in their room with a personal extension number. Each extension has voice mailbox capability.
Emergency Notification System
OCC uses a mass text messaging service to quickly notify the OCC family about emergencies situations which affect our campus. Students must voluntarily sign up for the service in order to receive these messages.
Town Cryer
Well, if you really wanted to, I guess you could walk around campus yelling out your information. Here is some inspiration. Please do not disturb any classes in session!
