Learning Center Services

Tutoring

Our staff is available to help students in the afternoon and early evenings. Though tutoring is mandatory for Study Skills students (see Study Skills below), this free service is provided for all students seeking academic guidance in any of their OCC classes. Sign up with the Learning Center Assistant to schedule a time to meet with a tutor (x2707).

Testing Center

Missed tests, quizzes, and memory work can be made up in the Learning Center. Please see your syllabi for specific instructions regarding make up work. Any applicable late fees are to be paid in the Business Office and the receipt presented to the Learning Center staff before make-up work can be completed.

Paper Editing

Students can bring any type of writing assignment to the Learning Center to be edited free of charge. Papers must be given directly to a Learning Center employee with an attached editing submission form. On the form, students can specify if they want their paper edited for format, style, content, mechanics, research, etc. Forms are available in the Learning Center. NEVER leave a document unattended in the Learning Center—hand it to one of our staff. Edited papers are returned within 2-3 days to the student campus mailboxes by 4:30 p.m.

Study Skills

Through the Study Skills courses and the Learning Center staff, students are equipped, encouraged, and mentored academically to succeed at Ozark Christian College.

Study Skills 1 specifically helps new and returning students to develop the following academic skills: goal setting, time management, reading, note taking, memorization, test taking, research, and writing.

Study Skills 2 is designed to equip returning students on probation with self-management skills that will allow them to critically examine self-perceptions, values, and decision-making habits in order to improve motivation, personal responsibility, and organizational skills.

New students who meet two of the following conditions will be enrolled in Study Skills and limit their schedule to 13 hours.

  1. ACT (composite):below 17
  2. ACT (English): below 17
  3. High School or College (for transfers) GPA of less than 2.50

Returning students on academic probation are also required to enroll in study skills and limit their schedule to 13 hours.
