Commencement Weekend Plans Announced
OCC is happy to announce the events of Commencement Weekend for the Class
of 2008. Honor Graduates and Speakers have been chosen for the weekend of
May 16-17, 2008.
Academic Dean Mark Scott recently announced the Honor Graduates for this
year's graduating class. Dan Johnson, has earned the honor
of Valedictorian; Jeremy Nelson, as Salutatorian; and Stephen
Muhota, has been selected by his classmates as the Class Orator.
The Baccalaureate Service will take place on Friday evening,
May 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the OCC Chapel. The address for the
evening will be given by OCC Professor Mark Moore, Joplin, and father of a
2008 graduate. Music will be provided by the OCC Concert Choir. Following
the Baccalaureate Service, the OCC Alumni Association will host a reception
in honor of the graduates and their families in the upper level of the OCC
Dining Hall.
Commencement exercises will be held in the OCC Multi-Purpose
Building at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 17. In a long-standing
tradition, the honor graduates will address their classmates and guests at
the Commencement Service Saturday morning.

Daniel Johnson,
Valedictorian |
Johnson, Valedictorian of this year's graduating class,
is the son of Allen and Terri Johnson, Fort Scott, Kansas. He will
be graduating with a Bachelor of Biblical Literature. While a student
at OCC, Johnson served as Youth Intern at the Community Christian
Church, Joplin and the Tyro Christian Church, Tyro, Kansas. After
graduation he plans to do a year-long internship with Crossroads Christian
Church in Brooklyn, New York, where he will be helping in the areas
of youth ministry and leadership development. |

Jeremy Nelson,
Salutatorian
|
Nelson, husband of Sara, also an OCC graduate, has been selected
as Salutatorian. He will be graduating with a Bachelor of Christian
Ministry. Nelson, a native of Longmont, Colorado, is currently serving
at his home church, Rocky Mountain Christian Church, in Niwot, Colorado.
Before coming to OCC, he served in the US Army for eight years. His
future plans include going to the mission field within the next 2-5
years. |

Stephen Muhota,
Class Orator

Muhota, selected by the senior class as the Class Orator, was
born in Nyeri, Kenya. The husband of Joy, and the father of Shiro, Grace
and Bro, Stephen came to the states to study at OCC, after working as
a Mechanical Engineer for Kenya Polytechnic. He will be graduating with
two degrees, a Bachelor of Biblical Literature and Bachelor of Christian
Ministry. His plans include returning to Kenya to be involved in ministry
there, taking care of the sick and the orphaned. |
