LA 172 - Theories and Principles of English Language Teaching

This course serves as an introduction to theories and principles of English language teaching. Students will examine: ESL programs, first and second-language acquisition, psychological and sociological factors that influence the language learner as well as error analysis and treatment. Current issues in SLA (second language acquisition) will also be addressed, as well as assessing the language learner's English language proficiency. Students are expected to report on ESL classroom observation.
